For 988 services, privacy practices are governed in part by the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline network, including its Confidentiality Statement, Privacy Policy, and related terms. CSSNV operates as a local contact center within this network and adheres to applicable federal and state requirements, as well as network expectations where applicable.
Information shared during crisis interactions, whether by phone, text, or chat, may be documented by Crisis Counselors and used to provide support, assess safety, coordinate care, support quality improvement, and improve services.
Confidentiality is a core principle of crisis services, but confidentiality is not the same as anonymity. Individuals do not have to share identifying information to receive support, but any information voluntarily provided may be documented as part of the interaction.
